Just finished another NetSuite Implementation in Southern California, and this time I was asked to pay a visit, also. It was actually a pretty good weekend, we made a lot of progress and they now have a working NetSuite instance. Client was good about jumping in and getting the job done, which is always a huge help. Driving to the airport today, though, the thought crossed my mind that I don't really 'get' California. The people who live there just swear by it, and maybe I'm missing something, but it really does not seem very special to me. Apart from the sunshine, it was 86 on Sunday, the area does not seem so vastly different from many of the other areas that I have visited in the US. So here's my new take on CA: The real and only difference between, say, California and Michigan is that the people in California like to brag about California. In Michigan, bragging of any kind is thought to be a bit uncouth. For example, many Californians have told me enthusiastically about the great Mexican food there. Sorry guys, but I tried two different Mexican place, one on a recommendation, and neither was anything to write home about. In Southwest Detroit there's a place called Mi Pueblo that has some of the best Mexican I've ever had, anywhere. Frankly I didn't have a single meal in California that even comes close to the neighborhood places around here. One thing that I did notice on my trip was the healthy business climate in California. Michigan needs to pick it up in a lot of areas. More on this tomorrow. |
