OK, Wiseguy, Time To Fess Up

I like the Olympics, a lot

I made several smarmy comments last week about the Olympics and some of the activities, like Ice Dancing and Curling. Notice that I am still not calling them 'sports'.

But frankly I rather enjoy Olympic competition. Some of the Winter Games stuff is a little strange but I like speed skating and even the Snowboard Cross was kind of interesting.

My favorite part of the Olympics is when an athlete comes back from an earlier Olympic effort that fell short. On Saturday Clara Hughes of Canada won the Gold Medal in the Women's 5000 meter speed skate. She was a Bronze medalist in 2002. The fact that she stuck with it for another 4 years, through all the mind-numbing practice and pain to climb the Olympic mountain makes her a champion, regardless of the medal color. That's just a great story, and an inspiration.
